Wall art for your bedroom
A bedroom wants art you can live with first thing and last thing. Here is how to size it over a bed, and what tends to stay easy on the eye, with real pieces we made for three bedrooms.

Size and placement
- Above a single or small double
- 18 × 24 in (45 × 60 cm)
- Above a double or king
- 20 × 28 in (50 × 70 cm)
- Gap above the headboard
- About 18 cm
- Glazing
- Acrylic, safer than glass over a bed
Over the bed
Over a double or king, the larger 20 × 28 in print with a mount holds the width of the bed. Over a single or a narrow double, the 18 × 24 in is enough. Leave about 18 cm between the headboard and the frame.
Every frame is glazed with acrylic, not glass. It is lighter and does not shatter, which matters over a pillow.
Calm before bold
Bedrooms suit pieces with a soft ground and few hard edges: landscapes, colour fields, quiet abstracts, pressed leaves. Strong contrast and busy pattern are easier in a hallway than above your head.
In a dark bedroom, a print on a pale ground glows against the wall; on a light wall, warmer and deeper tones give it weight.
Light
Bedrooms are often lit low and warm in the evening. We read the light in your photo and dim each preview to match it, so what you see is close to what you will live with.

Questions
What size art goes above a bed?
Above a double or king, a 20 × 28 in (50 × 70 cm) print with a mount. Above a single or small double, an 18 × 24 in (45 × 60 cm) print.
Is it safe to hang art above a bed?
Our frames use acrylic glazing rather than glass, so they are lighter and will not shatter. Use wall fixings suited to your wall and the frame’s weight.
What kind of art suits a bedroom?
Calm pieces usually: landscapes, colour fields, soft abstracts and botanicals, in colours that are already in the room.
