Wall art for your kitchen and dining room

Kitchens are where art is most often forgotten, and where a single piece changes the room most. A few practical points first, then what tends to suit.

Away from heat and steam

Hang art on a wall away from the hob, the kettle and the oven door, where steam and heat do not reach it. Acrylic glazing wipes clean and will not shatter if it is knocked.

What suits a kitchen

Still lifes and kitchen-table scenes are the natural fit: jugs, bowls of fruit, a single pear. Botanicals and simple mid-century shapes work too. Over a dining table, a calmer, larger piece holds the room while people sit.

With no furniture below it, hang the centre of the print about 145 to 150 cm from the floor, which is roughly eye level.

Questions

Can I hang framed art in a kitchen?

Yes, on a wall away from the hob, kettle and oven. Our frames use acrylic glazing, which wipes clean.

What art suits a dining room?

A larger, calmer piece over the table or sideboard, such as a 20 × 28 in print with a mount.
