Art for yellow walls
A yellow wall is the loudest thing in the room, so the art should either calm it down or answer it with something just as confident.

Black
Black or white frames give a clean edge against strong yellow; natural oak is softer on pale yellow.
Calm it or match it
Ink blue, bottle green and black are the classic partners for ochre and mustard: they cool the wall down and look deliberate. A print with a lot of white paper gives the eye a rest. Strong graphic pieces, mid-century shapes and confident line drawings hold their own against a bright wall.
Frames
A black frame gives the clearest edge on yellow. White frames look fresh on paler shades. Natural oak suits soft, buttery yellows and wooden floors.
A real example
We measured the wall from the photo, then made eight pieces from the room's colours. These are the ones the curator chose, with its reason under each.
